The Dubliner connects with Neil Hannon
by Jamie Richardson on July 11th, 2009

The first of a series of The Carmen Dubliner Club summer interview series began with The Divine Comedy’s Neil Hannon. Held last Thursday, on July 9th at the Clarence Hotel, the Connector team popped in to check it out.
The Dubliner Magazine gave away 10 free tickets to their readers for this event sponsored by Carmen wine. Afterward, Carmen held a wine reception for the guests but unfortunately we weren’t able to stay for it.
Popular presenter from RTE John Kelly conducted the interview with Neil Hannon, which started off with a conversation about Hannon’s childhood. The audience, captivated by Hannon’s humor and pleasant disposition, was laughing along with cheerful account of his earlier memories.
With the Carmen Dubliner Club summer interview series just beginning, we anticipate the rest will be just as fascinating as the first. Check out The Dubliner’s website or Facebook page.
Dragon's Den Connections ?
by connector on March 22nd, 2009

On the 6th January I went to the filming of the Irish Dragon’s Den in Rathfarnham in Dublin. This is an Irish version of a hugely popular TV show from the UK, of which I am a big fan. You may have seen the Irish Dragon’s Den on RTE1 on Thursdays recently.
Do you want to know how I get on ? Does Connector get the cash or do I just make some new connections ? To find out, watch RTE1 on April 2nd (Thursday) @ 10pm (approx) … and watch this blog for details of a meetup to watch the show in town that evening.
I went to the filming with 5 of my Connector buddies namely, Niall Whittle, Brendan Phelan, Conor Maloney, Natalia Kostrzewa & Tania Zorilla.
I went with these friends from Connector for the following reasons -
1 – It would best explain what Connector is all about – people connecting on personal projects
2 – I could share the experience of a full scale RTE production with them
3 – They were free to take some time off work /study to join me
4 – They could give me some moral support !
I went on the show to pitch them ‘Connector’ as an investment opportunity they could invest €50,000 in return for 10% of my ‘business’. I hope to explain to them and the audience why it was worth investing their hard earned money in Connector.
While I knew that Connector was in very early stages and it would be hard to win over the hard-nosed Dragons, I decided to go ahead with the show anyway. I had a business idea with a nice logo, a blog and some events under my belt … I thought it would be a great experience no matter what happened.
The Irish Dragons are successful entrepreneurs and business leaders who have been there, done that. They are: Gavin Duffy, Bobby Kerr, Sean Gallagher, Niall O’Farrell and Sarah Newman.
Did we connect ?? Watch & find out !

Connect with Michael Hayes
by connector on February 2nd, 2009
I met the cool actor & presenter Michael Hayes from RTE’s ‘How Low Can You Go’ last week in Cocoon with his lovely girlfriend Ailsta. He pestered me for a photo so here it is Michael
He even tried to make out that he did not gatecrash the January Connector, even though he was spotted by the Connector Security Team climing in coming via the roof of the Sycamore Club (allegedly) ! I’d say his lovely girlfriend gets him out of a lot of trouble. Luckily Baz is scared of heights & we were spared complete havoc !

Connect with Green students
by connector on June 4th, 2008
I was talking to the ECO-UNESCO team at a recent Green event in the RDS and I was telling them about Bebo & YouTube and how they should use web video & social networking to connect with young Green students around Ireland.
Elaine Nevin, ECO-UNESCO Director, listened & fair play to her as now we have 40 videos going live online from their annual awards in the Mansion House, featuring RTE’s Aidan Power.
This was arranged by connector.ie with help from Progressive Productions in Ranelagh. Thanks also to Fernanda & her team who were very helpful. l will report back soon on some stats and how well these videos perform in terms of YouTube views. Some brand or company should sponsor this next year … it’s a fantastic event.

Connecting with Gay Byrne
by connector on May 26th, 2008
Just when I thought there would be no connections today, phew, Gay Byrne comes to the rescue !
I spotted living legend Gay Byrne, outside Crowe’s Bar in Ballsbridge. He’s looking well but declined an offer to be interviewed by connector.ie much to my disappointment !
The traffic was quite loud but I think he told me he was waiting for his missus to come and buy him a drink. Lucky fella as it was very sunny there watching the world go by, almost unrecognisible in his shades and hat.
Good man Gay. ‘The Late Late Show’ taught me everything I know in life !!
