Connect online by phone

by Sarai Fernandez on December 10th, 2009

It’s only hours for the Connector Christmas Party, one of the greatest events in the whole year and a must-be if you want to be connected.
As all you know Connector runs monthly meetings where people can make professional and personal connections offline. But we want people to keep their connections online as well and to encourage that, we will raffle two wonderful social mobile phones, and all the benefits will go to the Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

The winners will get an INQ Mini 3G, courtesy of the mobile network 3. This little treat that we are offering has an authentic Twitter application, which will let you be always on’ and send tweets and retweets via the internet rather than using SMS.
It weights only 90 gr., has a 2 megapixels camera, usb and bluetooth and it also includes a ‘plug and play’ HSDPA modem enabling high-speed wireless broadband on PCs and Macs. And all this things in a tiny candy bar shaped phone with the coolest design!

Connecting For a Good Cause

by Sarai Fernandez on December 9th, 2009

A long time ago, in 1872 some good people from Dublin founded a tiny hospital for poor children. It had only 8 beds. But the idea was so successful that only 4 years after that, there was such an increase in activity that they had to ask The Irish Sisters of Charity to run the busy hospital.

Over time, this hospital grew and grew, andis now known today as The Temple Street Children’s Hospital, one of the most important hospitals in the country, which leads investigation and treatment in several areas such as neurological, eye, craniofacial, kidney, airways and metabolic disorders. The great success of this centre is that they’re always involved in new projects to improve the experience of staying in a hospital for both the children and parents.

Now this hospital is raising funds to develop a new dedicated Cystic Fibrosis and Respiratory Out-Patient Unit, that will cost €2.7 million. They are also looking to buy new equipment, some machines which can help in the diagnosis or in the treatment of ill children.

The fundraising office for Temple Street Hospital has thought of 12 ways that everybody can help the Hospital, and therefore the children and their families. At Connector we would like to join this good cause and that’s why we are going to fundraise at our Christmas Party. So if you also think that healthy children is something worth to fight for, join us on thursday’s evening at Lillie’s Bordello: make connections, have fun and connect for a good cause.

by Conor on November 30th, 2009

As part of Tribes Week, we are featuring all of our shortlisted Tribes on the Connector Blog today. Each of these Tribes have been shortlisted for the Connector Tribe of the Year award. The winner will be announced at Christmas Connector.

Synth Eastwood is a music, art and technology based group that presents different artist’s work from around the world at a gig type exhibition.

As they say themselves:

Since the group’s first show in May of 2006, the number of artists submitting has doubled for each show. In addition to the submitted work bands are invited to play, along with the Synth Eastwood band who perform a set based on the show’s theme. In fact all facets of the show even down to the layout and structure of the exhibition space are considered in relation to the brief.

dmouth

Darthmouth Square has been a huge success in 2009.  From a standing start, this tribe has grown to almost 1,000 members of Ranelagh locals & fans who have reclaimed this green area and put it back to great use for the community. Darthmouth are using this public space for local events. Low impact, fun, educational, green, cutting edge, theatrical, non commercial, charitable, if you have any ideas, they want them! Donations at events pay for the parks enhancement and future events.

D Light Studios – Connector 'Tribe of the Year 2009' (Shortlisted)

by Conor on November 30th, 2009

As part of Tribes Week, we are featuring all of our shortlisted Tribes on the Connector Blog today. Each of these Tribes have been shortlisted for the Connector Tribe of the Year award. The winner will be announced at Christmas Connector.

D-light Studios were opened in February 2009 by a talented Polish photographer, Agata Stoinska, to be used for professional photography, film and television production, product launches, exhibition space and events. The studios came about initially as a response to the lack of inspiring, practical photographic studios available to rent in Dublin.

As they say themselves:

The flexibility of d-Light Studios is truly unique in the Dublin – our philosophy is to let clients themselves push the boundaries of what is achievable in this space. Uses for the studios include professional photography, film and television production, exhibition space, product launches and events. But really d-Light’s use is limited only by our clients’ imagination. We therefore invite you to arrange a visit and come and see our studios for yourself.

Connecting Brings Added Value

by Mallory McSweeney on November 27th, 2009

networking

As I was flipping through The Sunday Post yesterday an article titled, “Networking can bring added value”, caught my eye as I immediately thought of Connector.  The article points out that while tough economic times influence companies to pull back on spending, networking actually provides opportunities to save.  Helen O’Brien, managing director of HOB Management, points out that it is important for businesses to keep investing in and attending events in the current economy as businesses need to be out there more than ever and people are helping each other out more than ever before.  Networking events provide opportunities to garner new contacts and reconnect with old ones.  You may be able to drum up new business for your company, or connect with another company and strike up a business relationship that can provide for both parties.

The value of online social networking can not go unmentioned as people are taking advantage of newer technologies to promote their businesses and get noticed.  Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, blogging, and interactive websites are all valuable marketing tools that can reach hundreds or thousands of people in seconds.  Each digital forum allows for consumers and businesses to interact which brings an added value to the information being provided.  Additionally, many of these online tools can be accessed for free, allowing for new and improved marketing initiatives or promotion in any economic climate.

Connector has two major networking events in the next few weeks, Connector Launches was yesterday and we hope you made loads of connections! Christmas Connector is on 10/12.  Join us and take advantage of the melting pot of social and business connections available at each event!
