Universities and colleges all over the country are full of activity once again as new and old students are settling back into college life. The level of activity among students this year is particularly high with new societies and events popping up all over the place. One such society that has been growing rapidly since its establishment earlier this year is Dublin City University’s (DCU) Innovation Society. Chairperson of DCU Innovation Society, David Murphy, sees his new society as a way of dealing with students, staff and anyone else who wants to get involved, by listening, improving and helping to get their ideas up and running. The society prides itself on producing fresh new ideas all the time. Throughout the year they plan on organising events such as creativity workshops, presentations and panel discussions, business plan competitions, meets with local groups and organisations, and outings to road shows in the RDS.

Connector.ie appreciates the value of students, and the hard work they put into their projects doesn’t go unnoticed. With that in mind, Connector.ie is lending a helping hand to DCU Innovation Society by connecting them and their members with industry professionals and by creating networks. This exciting new collaboration promises to benefit both DCU Innovation Society and Connector.ie itself in many ways so here’s to a successful future and a flourishing relationship.

The Open Agency Project is a new innovative initiative for students and graduates to gain valuable work experience and collaborate with small businesses on digital marketing and social media projects.

Founded by Conor Lynch, university lecturer, CEO and manager of a series of digital and social media businesses, this project was activated in response to the high demand from his contacts embarking on a new path and searching for real world experience with established field experts. It is a great way to develop skills and network in the industry during the college year, summer breaks or upon graduation.

The online/offline Open Agency Project is available to aspiring students and graduates with skills and/or interests in:

• Digital Marketing
• Blogging
• Graphic Design
• Social Media
• Digital Video Producing

We are also taking applications from employers looking to share their knowledge with the next generation in return for assistance in related project work.

Connector.ie’s new project is giving young people the chance to kick-start their future careers in an exciting new way.

The project aims to connect young people with a successful person in the industry that they are trying to break into through a series of Chapters. Each Chapter will give a student the opportunity to arrange an interview with someone who can help their career in a big way, a ‘mentor’. The student can pick their mentor’s brain as they get to know what it’s really like to be involved in their chosen industry. They can learn how their mentor came to be where they are today. They can learn how they themselves can get there. They can get some insider information on the industry. But most importantly they can make a contact that can help them on their journey into their future career.

Each student will record their experiences in a blog so that what they learned can be shared and benefited from by the rest of the world. Anyone can get involved so why not get in contact and Write your own future!
