Connector @ Windows 7 launch party
by Conor on October 28th, 2009
This was a BIG launch party given the state of the Irish economy ! Thanks to Piaras from Edelman for the invites to the eagerly awaited launch of Windows 7. The event was held at the Button Factory and the highlight was this ’80′s tastic’ performance by Spring Break !
#Media140 Connections
by Conor on October 24th, 2009

I did not realise that Monday the 26th is a bank holiday in Ireland and I booked into a Twitter type ‘real time media conference in London, called Media 140 (with reference to Twitter’s 140 character limit). It aims to cover everything a brand needs to know about twitter & ‘real-time social media’.
I will use the time to catch up with some old friends and colleagues and report back some learnings from the conference. The one day conference will explore the impacts of real-time social media on agencies, marketers and brands. The hashtag for the conference is #Media140 & I hope some of Ireland’s social media heads follow the day online.
As they say – “If brands are your business, Media140 is a conference you can’t afford to miss. Are your brands social? Are they staying ahead of competitors in the social media space? If you answered ‘no’ or ‘um, not sure…’ to either of those questions, you need to come to Media140 in London, on the 26th October 2009.”
Connecting with Martin Moylan's latest video
by Jamie Richardson on August 18th, 2009
I’m starting to wonder if there’s anything that Martin Moylan can’t do! Check out the Canon Digital Video Contest‘s Gold Award winner and his new endeavors!
Martin’s latest video, a tribute to The Dark Knight, is very impressive indeed! Not only did Martin direct this video, but played both roles using his Canon XH A1 . It’s truly a very stunning piece with great special effects as well! Work well done!
Have a look!

Hot House connectors
by Conor on May 7th, 2009
The Hot House is a great programme I spent a month on in 2008 and I met a bunch of great people I have kept in touch with since. A good few have come down to check out Connector Meetups and here is a short interview with Michelle O’Keefe (Travel Affiliate) & Iarfhlaith Kelly (Webstrong) by Winter Foenander @ Connector No.9.

Connector @ Barcamp Belfast
by connector on April 26th, 2009
Now that Connector is going well in Dublin and heading for Connector No.10, I feel it is time to also connect with the fine people of Belfast, Cork & Galway. If you like what we are doing and would like to do similar in your areas, please contact conor [@] connector.ie as any help on the ground is appreciated. We will also be able to promote your *stuff* in Dublin.
So with BarCamp Belfast on yesterday in Belfast I hopped on the Dublin – Belfast train and went to the event organised by Andy McMillan ….. There was 350 registered to attend but it is hard to estimate how many turned up as there were talks in 4 different rooms. Well done to all the organisers and the speakers too – there was some great stuff and I enojyed the ‘unconference’ format a lot.
I knew a few people from before including the good guys from Contrast but it was great to make a bunch of new connections in Norn Iron. I gave a 30 minute session on ‘Digital & Social Media Marketing’ and I had quite an interested audience of about 50 people. Thanks to this un-conference format, anyone can volunteer to speak on a chosen topic and hope people wil turn up … listen … and stay !

Paul from contrast.ie even gave us a beer as a bribe encouragement for us to listen to his talk late on Saturday afternoon … nice idea, sweet ! And we end us hanging outside the Conor Lecture Hall … which defintely deserved a photo … thanks to Philip Wilson for the photos & Mark from iddictive who is also pictured.

I was most interested in my chats to possible partners in the Belfast web community for Connector and there have been 2 new offers to speak after yesterday which is great -
Philip Wilson – Internetsense.co.uk
Alyson McElroy Jones – thechangingroomni.com
Darren Doyle – Microsoft
Mark Nagurski – twitter.com/iddictive
Gita Malinovska – Agile Technologies
Ken McGuire – Ken McGuire Inc.

by connector on April 15th, 2009
Lights, Canon, Action
Connector and Canon Consumer Imaging are delighted to announce the launch of Lights, Canon, Action at Connector No.9 on April 23rd in 4 Dame Lane. To celebrate the launch of Canon’s new Legria High Definition range, Canon & Connector have teamed up to run a competition for the chance to win a Canon XH A1, the digital filmmaker’s tool.
Yes, Connector has given our digital video lads and lassies with a chance to win a great prize and even greater respect from your peers !
The competition will be judged by Hollywood actor Liam Cunningham, star of Hunger and The Wind that Shakes The Barley. We’re looking for three minute long short movies based on freecording. Freecording, put simply, is capturing your world in your own unique fashion and from your own perspective.
The shortlisted entries will be showcased at a very special Connector event in June. More details soon on www.connector.ie & click here for email updates >> about the competition.

Connect with Pat Phelan
by connector on April 14th, 2009

It is a major coup but Connector has managed to persuade Mr. Telecoms Disruptor Pat Phelan to come and join our panel of experts for Connector Startup on the 23rd April. Pat (centre of picture) is a colourful character as befitting a Corkman and has made some big international deals lately including one with my favourite mobile video application provider …
In news that Pat just announced today, Cubic Telecom partners with Qik, Inc to bring low cost voice and data roaming to worldwide users. Cubic extend their partnership program by powering Qik Roam product that allows travelers to make calls and stream live video from their mobile devices for up to 80% less.
The Qik deal follows on from other deals with travel service Dopplr, Big Red Book, Shandon Travel, GetCover Insurance and Invincible Mobile. Details on these partnerships are available here: http://www.cubictelecom.com/partners
Supporting nearly 120 mobile devices, Qik allows anyone to broadcast video live from their cell phone. With users in more than 160 countries, Qik is a truly global mobile utility. For example, Qik user Joseph Tame from the UK streamed live for hours as he ran the Tokyo Marathon, and Qikkers in several world cities all streamed the simultaneous, global Twitter meet-up Twestival live on Qik .
The partnership with Cubic Telecom will see Qik give its users the opportunity to purchase Qik-branded SIM cards enabling them to stream video live from all corners of the planet – without coming home to an astronomical phone bill. The Qik SIM also provides massive savings on voice calls, email, web browsing and texting while they travel. Under the tagline “Go mobile, not broke,” Qik is offering its users a simple, inexpensive way to share live video no matter where they are.
The Qik pre-paid SIM cards with full voice and data can be purchased from http://qik.com/roam. This is also where customers can manage their accounts.
“Travelers can now share their world journeys with videos, photos, text, and calls from their mobile device without it costing the earth.” said Pat Phelan, Cubic Telecom CEO “We’ve heard of the horror stories of travelers returning from a trip abroad to cell phone bills in the thousands of euros. The Qik SIM eliminates this worry for our customers.”
Connecting with @jasonroe & @niamhsmith
by connector on April 8th, 2009
Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Jason Roe for the second time – the first & last time I met Jason was after the BTW Meetup last Thursday. This was a great networking event for bloggers & twitterers & whatever and was organisedby Jason so well done ! He was one of the crew who came up to Le Cirk to watch the Dragons’ Den and there is such a great community spirit among this group.
Jason is also a Freelance Developer, Project Manager & all round SEO Expert. He is possibly going to do something for Connector but lets see if we can work out a deal. He specialises in web development, project management and SEO. He’s based in Dublin, Ireland and has a strong background in:
+ Software / Web Development
+ Project Management
+ Online Marketing / Search Engine Optimisation
+ Online Publishing & Integration (traditional media, print-to-web & web-to-print)
+ Online billing systems, E-commerce and Realex Integration

Niamh Smith is a great friend of the one and only Darragh Doyle and that is enough recommendation for me ! Niamh has started to help me with Connector recently as I am trying to sort out the email list for invites and email updates once and for all. Niamh is a great help at community management & is working on several part time marketing & events projects. One of them coming up for her is Oscailt.com, another client of mine who needs skills like Niamh has to offer to SMEs & others. More soon when we complete this little project using MailChimp.com
Previously Niamh was the marketing executive (among other roles) for a company called Brandwell for almost 7 years. It was a small company so I gained a lot of experience in various areas of the business. She left Brandwell in January 2008 to go travelling and have been working with Darragh Doyle on some projects since she came back, the most recent being the Irish Blog Awards videos.
