Connect with Munster Rugby

by connector on January 18th, 2009

You may recall before Christmas I helped raise €300 for charity at the Bloggers Christmas Dinner while raffling 2 VIP tickets to see Munster v Sale Sharks.  Well the match was last night and I was at the match with the two winners & my Limerick based cousin Diarmuid O’Riordan.

The winners were Christine Coen & Keith Delahunty who are pictured with myself, Diarmuid and Louise from Toyota.

Connect with my czech mate

by connector on October 24th, 2008

I met Lenka (Czech) at the recent October Connector Meetup and she asked to meet for some web marketing help to promote herself as a part time physio & massage therapist.  The issue she faces is by offering ‘massage’ services on the internet she can attract some undesireable clientele with the wrong impressions of what is on offer!

We came up with some ways around this and when she has her web site set up, I will add in the link so you can check it out.  In the meantime if you need a good massage, please email conor [at] connector.ie for Lenka’s details.

I was only too glad to help and in return she agreed to feature in the connector blog. Thanks Lenka and good luck with the volleyball tonight and don’t forget to bring your teammates to the November Connector Meetup ! ;-)

Brian O'Driscoll, connector, CONMAN, Temple Street Hospital & the €1,000 donation

by connector on October 21st, 2008

A couple of years ago I bought brianodriscoll.com which was amazingly still available (plus some other domain names).  Essentially I was registering web names on their behalf (it only cost me $10) and I diverted traffic to my CONMAN MySpace page in the meantime.

I thought it would be a good way for me to get into sports marketing via an introduction to some of the Irish rugby players.

Well it did not work out like that because his agent did not respond to my written communication offering them the doman name.  Then ages later when I met BOD one night in Zaytoon ‘Delux Kebab Shop’ in Dublin, although he know I was some kind of CONMAN, he was not interested in hearing about brianodriscoll.com which was fair enough.

Monthly later I received calls from his sister and a London based solicitor suggesting that the best course of action would be to hand over the domain name. It seemed like that Ireland’s greatest ever rugby player did not need the help of Ireland’s ‘Internet Marketer of the Year 2005′ – they just wanted the domain name back and they’d work it themselves.  *shock*

Connecting with Munster Rugby Fans

by connector on October 14th, 2008

I have been managing a project for Eighty:Twenty over the last month for Toyota.  It is for the Toyota sponsorship of Munster Rugby and the site is now live and has been going great – check out the site ToyotaRugby.tv developed for the huge community of Munster Rugby fans.

The site has videos of fans filmed recently and also a whopping 25 tickets & Munster jerseys to give away for the big match.

Adidas are also running a competition around the New Zealand game, match, occasion, battle and are using all their sponsored athletes from Ireland in a series of small events. Nice idea but not as HOT as the Toyota campaign !! Of course I’d say that …

Connect with Free All Ireland Tickets

by connector on July 9th, 2008

Toyota have kicked off an innovative campaign called ‘Meet Mike’ which uses a healthy mix of digital video (YouTube) & social media (Facebook & Bebo).

The bait for you to check it out is that you can win a set of 4 tickets for the 2008 All Ireland Football Final in Croke Park.

Mike is a staunch GAA fanatic, sporting a jersey emblazoned with all of the county crests.  What a connector !!

With 18 weeks of thrilling football action to follow this summer, he’s hoping there’s room on the sidelines for the Official Dentist of the GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship.

Follow Mike on his escapades as he schmoozes with Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh, as his wife Hillary makes futile attempts to coax him out of his Toyota and back to the family home and as Mike pushes for the founding of a Gaelic Automobile Association.

This campaign was created by Eighty:Twenty.

Powerade connects with 'The Munchies'

by connector on May 28th, 2008

Well this is a surprise …. a small GAA team from Cavan I used to play against when playing for Mountnugent GFC is now fronting the Powerade ‘Never Give Up’ campaign for 2008. Well done to the lads on getting picked and best of luck for the Cavan Junior Championship !! Go The Munchies !!

Another personal connection is that I was with Cybercom last year when we setup that page. It has now had 11,000 views and given the fanatacism of Cavan GAA supporters this should be a busy Bebo page !

A third connection (a hat-trick) is that I went to university with the Powerde brand manager. Well done to Aengus on a good online community campaign and lets see how the Munchies get on in the summer ! Maybe Cavan Cola should sponsor Mountnugent ?

Croke Park connections

by connector on May 18th, 2008

I was a guest of Ernst & Young’s Vani Alvarez today in Croke Park premium level for the match between Meath & Carlow. A big congrats also to Wicklow & Mick O’Dwyer in their first ever win at GAA HQ.

Well done to Meath on an easy win and the highlight for the connector was meeting Meath legend Bernard Flynn in the stand. For those who don’t know about the famous teams of old, here is a classic 1998 clip !

Bernard was a gentleman as usual and a photo follows soon.
