Connector goes to the Movies

by Mallory McSweeney on February 7th, 2010

Last Wednesday evening Connector hosted the first of many monthly movie meet-ups at Cineworld on Parnell Street.  The group that gathered was brought together by the Dublin Midweek Movie Club facebook group and was a diverse collection of Dubs who all share a love of film!
We saw Irish director Jim Sheridan’s latest effort, Brothers, which was thought to be a good film by all.  Afterwards, most of the group made our way to The Church on Jervis Street for a post movie drink and a fun and lively discussion about all things cinematic.

Connector plans to continue to host a monthly movie meet up on the last Wednesday of each month, alternating between blockbusters and independent/documentary films.  Please join the Dublin Midweek Movie Club facebook to stay informed and participate in choosing next months film!  We look forward to seeing a lot of new faces at this months meet up!

Connect with the EU

by Conor on September 22nd, 2009

This is a cool idea from Phillipe which seems to be going very well judging by the qualityof the video entries to the competition.  I’d like people to check out these great videos from good friends of Connector Martin Moylan & Dan Dalton who came first & second respectively in the recent Canon Digital Video Contest we ran.

The Proposition …  Make a short film, inspired by the notion of Democracy & Dialogue. Go on… It doesn’t matter if you record it on your mobile phone, a state of the art digital video camera, or create your own DIY animation – the idea’s the thing. Make it a comedy, a tragedy, a documentary, an animation – whatever takes your fancy. It’s about self-expression. And if it gets people thinking, even better.

The Prize … The winning entry will win a state of the art HD Digital camera worth €1400 and have their work screened this October at the 2009 Darklight Film Festival. There are also runners up prizes for highly commended entries.

Here are the videos from the lads and give please them your support by viewing it, rating it & passing it on if you like their work.

Connecting with Martin Moylan’s latest video

by Jamie Richardson on August 18th, 2009

I’m starting to wonder if there’s anything that Martin Moylan can’t do! Check out the Canon Digital Video Contest’s Gold Award winner and his new endeavors!

Martin’s latest video, a tribute to The Dark Knight, is very impressive indeed! Not only did Martin direct this video, but played both roles using his Canon XH A1 . It’s truly a very stunning piece with great special effects as well! Work well done!

Have a look!

Connect with Bud’s new TV Ad

by Andrew Sigle on July 7th, 2009

All Together Now is the new advertising commercial that Budweiser has launched on the 4th of July.  It features The Beatles song called All Together Now.  Connector along with other bloggers were invited to an evening with pizza and beer to watch the preview of this commercial.  Everyone enjoyed the evening and check out the ad below & www.alltogethernow.ie

Also we met with the producers of the video via a skype conference call.  It was very interesting to talk with the masterminds of the video and hear why they did things they way they did.  It could be mistaken for a Coca-Cola commercial so it must be quite a good ad ! ;-0

Connector meets The Apprentice Team

by Andrew Sigle on July 6th, 2009

Last week the connector team was in a meeting at The Church in the upstairs part of the balcony. It was brought to our attention that the entire cast of Ireland’s The Apprentice had taken a break from shooting to enjoy lunch on the balcony of the restaurant.

At first I had no idea who this party was until Eugenia from Shinawil approached Conor at our table. She was a producer for the company that also produced the show Dragon’s Den. She actually recognized Conor from his appearance on the show.  It was pretty cool that I ate lunch with the whole cast of The Apprentice right here at The Church.

I am a fan of the American apprentice show with Donald Trump; however I have still yet to see the Irish version. I hope to look into it now that I have witnessed all of the contestants eating lunch in person.
