Connector Christmas Awards 2009 @ Lillies Bordello
by Conor on December 13th, 2009
Last night Connector presented the Connector of the Year Awards at Lillie’s Bordello at our second annual Christmas Party. We wanted to applaud the great work of Dublin tribes / online communities plus a guy and a girl who have done really well in the last year.
The prizes were presented by TV Presenter Michael Hayes & each winner received a framed certificate and a brand new mobile phone kindly sponsored by Nokia, Sony Ericsson & 3 Mobile.
The winners for ‘Tribe of the Year’ was Culch.ie, a community formed by Darren Byrne (pictured below). He has rounded up team of talented volunteer bloggers who write about all things pop culture & attend many arts & cultural events around Ireland.
In the Connector Male category David Mooney was the winner for his amazing work with Funky Seomra while the Connector Female award went to Natalia Kostrzewa, who couldn’t attend as she was out of the country.
Besides that, we have made some predictions for the Top 10 to watch in 2010. Have a look to their names (in slideshare below) and keep an eye on them, they’re doing interesting work and we wish them all the best in 2010!
Approximately 170 people came to the event & we raised approx. €850 TBC for Temple Street Children’s Hospital so thanks for all donations. The event was kindly sponsored by Peroni & RealexPayments and thanks also to Applied Signs & Display.
We were entertained & enjoyed a fantastic night where we had Apollina tribal belly dancer and also comedy performances from Will Lynch, Ronan Grace, Paudy Byrne & Mark Hanratty.
Last but not least, I would like to thank the Connector team who helped organise this and all the events during 2009.

Create Your Own Peroni Memory @ Christmas Connector
by Izabela Zelazna on November 30th, 2009
A long time ago, scientists proved that there was a primal connection between whiffs of smell or hints of taste and the memory. Apparently, distinctive odors/tastes associated with certain events can elicit memories of those events.
Simply speaking, a taste of an apple pie can bring you a memory of your granny’s loving eyes or a whiff of a certain aftershave can evoke one of an ex-boyfriend.
I definitely have a thing for Peroni. Whenever I have a chance to have this beer, my taste-associative memory recalls summer 2001 in Italy. Like in those tacky movies, I see myself surrounded by friends, sitting on the beach, sipping my Peroni, nibbling cold Pe-Peroni and watching the sun rise. Sharing these moments and being a part of  this experience left me with fantastic friendships and bunch of great photos.
So, what could be better than a glass of sunny Peroni on a rainy&windy&cold December evening,? Two glasses perhaps…
Why not pop along to our Christmas gathering and create your own Peroni memory. Hope to see you there.

Connector Halloween Roundup
by Emma Greene on November 5th, 2009

It was a spooky October night in Purty Kitchen Temple Bar. People came to the door some in costume some not, but all eager to meet new people and make connections.
The room was decked out to the full with lanterns, balloons and cobwebs. Not only was it full with decorations but also some delicious treats supplied by one of the nights sponsors Marks & Spencers. These lovely treats were washed down happily with an ice cold Bulmers Light another one of our very generous sponsors. Purty Kitchen also donated platters of delicious food on the night.
One of the main attractions of the night was Facebooth “Video Booths for Every Occasion†the attendees were able to leave a video comment on their experience of the night. It was highly successful. This was the first time Facebooth has appeared in Ireland and it was quite the achievement getting them here.
Entertainment on the night, besides the DJ was the up and coming comedian Marcus O’ Laoira who has only been on the comedy seen since June of this year. Marcus has appeared in comedy festivals such as Kilkenny Cat Laughs and the Bulmers Comedy Festival. Other than tonight’s gig he will be appearing in six others. The crowd loved him and his energy, he preformed a music comedy and was ably supported by Greg Marks.
Overall it was a fantastic night, looking forward to next years already! Thanks to Jason & BTW for coming down and making it such a goodnight of connections – Conor & Jason are pictured about & more pix here >>
